IOVI TON. To Jupiter Tonans. The image of the thunderer stands in a temple of six columns, bearing the usual attributes.


Augustus, on the occasion of his escape from immenent danger during a storm of thunder and lightning, encountered in his Cantagrian (Spanish) expedition, dedicated a temple in the Capitol of Rome Jovi Tonanti, in the year 732. -[Dio. lib. 53] -The engraving is from a denarius of Augustus.
